To The Black Forest

The Black Forest Campground strongly suggests that you DO NOT use GPS, Map Quest, Google Maps, Yahoo Maps or any other type computer/internet generated directions to the campground. Since we are in a rural location, some systems have streets listed wrong and back roads that look easier and faster are actually not. If you do use these systems, please compare them to our directions listed below. We strive in keeping our directions to the campground the easiest to follow and safest to travel. (If you do insist on using your GPS, give yourself up to hour more travel time and see below for our physical address.)

 

From Charleston or Columbia SC

Take I-26 West to Laurens, SC.  Then take 385 to the NORTH side of Greenville, SC.  Exit 42 (Stone Ave/Travelers Rest Exit) off 385, turn right off ramp onto E. Stone Ave. (also known as 276W). Follow Stone Ave for 1.5 miles to the traffic light. Turn right onto Rutherford Rd (this is still 276W). In .4 miles Rutherford Rd will turn to the right ,YOU STAY STRAIGHT. (This road is now called Poinsett Hwy and 276W) Follow 276W for 23.2 miles. DO NOT TURN ON PERSIMMON RIDGE ROAD AS SOME GPS's SAY! Turn right onto 276 west and follow to Caesars Head State Park. (about 7.7 miles up the mountain from the turn off). 

Just before Caesars Head Park the road is steep and has 5 sharp turns.  Once at Caesars Head State Park go another 3 miles on 276 to the North Carolina border.  Once at the state line, SLOW DOWN. We are the 2nd road on the right (about 100 yards from the state line). If you see the Welcome to North Carolina sign, you went too far.

****Big Rig Advisory for campers arriving from the South****

Parts of Route 276, north of Greenville, are steep and curvy.  The road travels up the mountain 1000 ft within 7 miles. If you feel that your vehicle doesn't have the power to climb the mountain, or you are not comfortable driving it, please see Alternate Directions below.

From Charlotte, NC

Take I-85 to Gastonia. Get on Rte. 74 towards Shelby NC.  Follow Rte 74 until you get to I-26. Get on I-26 West heading to Asheville, NC. Follow I-26 and get off interstate at Exit 40. At the end of the exit ramp turn left onto Hwy. 280 West. Go 16.2 miles to Pisgah Forest, where Hwy. 280 ends.  Stay straight on 64W and 276S and go into Brevard (3.5 miles). In downtown Brevard 276S turns left. You turn left and continue for 12.6 miles to the Black Forest. (located 1.5 miles past the Cedar Mountain Fire Dept.) Turn left onto Summer Road and follow to the end.

 

From Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro, Hickory NC & Knoxville TN to Asheville

Take I-40 to Asheville NC. In Asheville, Exit 46A, Take I-26 to Exit 40 Asheville Airport Exit (old exit 9). At the end of the exit ramp turn right onto Hwy. 280. Go 16.2 miles to Pisgah Forest, where Hwy. 280 ends.  Stay straight on 64W and 276S and go into Brevard (3.5 miles). In downtown Brevard 276S turns left. You turn left and continue for 12.6 miles to the Black Forest. (located 1.5 miles past the Cedar Mountain Fire Dept.) Turn left onto Summer Road and follow to the end.

From Atlanta

I-85 from Atlanta to Greenville SC. Just before Greenville, take Hwy 25 to the north side of Greenville.  Then take 276W. In about 20 miles 276W & Route 11 will combine for about 5 miles. Route 11 will go straight, you need to turn right onto 276W to Caesars Head State Park. Just before Caesars Head Park the road is steep and has 5 sharp turns.  Once at Caesars Head Park go another 3 miles on 276 to the North Carolina border.  Once at the state line, we are the 2nd road on the right (about 100 yards from the state line)

****Alternate Directions for Large RV's arriving from the South****

From I-26 in Spartanburg, SC travel west on I-26 to Hendersonville, NC Exit 49 , Hwy. 64W.  Go through Hendersonville, stay on 64 for about 1/2 hour to Pisgah Forest.  At Pisgah Forest, 64W turns left and joins 276S.  You turn left and go into Brevard 3.5 miles.  In downtown Brevard 276S turns left. You turn left and continue for 12.6 miles to the Black Forest. (located 1.5 miles past the Cedar Mountain Fire Dept.) Turn left onto Summer Road and follow to the end.
